I. A story which highlights ministry this month:
On Saturday June 10th we had our end-of –the-year BBQ at Alton Baker Park. It was a great time of fellowship as we wrapped up the term and year. After eating and playing volleyball, we walked down to the river as a group and I had the privilege of baptizing 2 of our guys – Chris and Nick. I had been discipling each of these guys over the course of the last two terms and both determined they needed to be baptized. (Chris, I believe made his faith real in this last term.) It was fantastic! We had the guys share their stories of why they were there and they both had family and friends there to hear what God is doing in their lives.
June 18-July 5 Lori and I flew with 6 students to China to meet international students and share with them. It was a great trip and I believe it really encouraged our students in sharing their faith.
July 8-15th was Jericho Week. There was a team from Alabama that came to our campus to share with students, prayer walk, and do some servant evangelism. It was a great week! We gave away water, played basketball with students in the gym, did surveys, and held an ultimate Frisbee tourney. We were able to share with several students – and one student rededicated his life to Christ because of the influence of the team.
II. A gospel story:
While in China, we met several students through conversational English corners. Students came to practice their English with the native speakers (us) and we talked to the students about life and spiritual things. One young man that I met and introduced to the other two guys was King. (not his real name) King did not seem interested in Spiritual things at first, but we continued to talk with him – meeting to play soccer or just have lunch. We would continue to talk with King about Jesus – answering his questions and sharing scripture with him. One day, about a week into our trip – he came to our hotel room to play cards and hang out. We showed him a Bible and shared with him a little more about Jesus. We asked him what he thought about a particular scripture and he sat up and said – “I believe” It was as if he had a revelation. He proclaimed his belief and entered the Kingdom of Heaven! We gave him a Chinese-English Bible to take home and read. He did and the very next day he came back and asked if we had another Bible. He wanted to give one to his roommate and friend! The day after that he brought another friend who asked a ton of questions and said he had read a little of King’s Bible. We shared with Him and King’s roommate and gave him a Bible. On our last day we introduced King and his friends to a local friend who could teach them the Bible. They were all very excited and looking forward to studying the Bible together. It is exciting to see what God is doing in China and how He is opening people up to Him and the Gospel. King is a child of the King now and there are many more students (more than 70) who heard the gospel and were able to ask questions and learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.
